AFTER her stellar finish in the Women’s Time Trial last Thursday, Marella Vania Salamat and teammate Avegail Rombaon failed to give the Philippines a medal in the Women’s Mass Start Road Race finals of the 28th Singapore Southeast Asian (SEA) Games at the Marina Bay South in Singapore.

Salamat, who snared the gold medal in the Women’s Time Trial, finished the eight-lap, 114-kilometer grind in two hours, 49 minutes and 47 seconds, last Saturday for eighth place.

Rombaon finished at the joint sixth spot alongside four other riders with identical time records of 2:49:43 but the Filipina rider settled for the sixth spot after a photo finish.

Thi That Nguyen of Vietnam clocked in at 2:49:42 to snare the gold medal.
