The GlobalPort Batang Pier snagged the last twice-to-beat incentive after they outlasted the Alaska Aces in overtime, 117-104, last night in the 40th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

GlobalPort completed its best-ever finish in the eliminations since joining the league in 2012, ending the 11-game initial round with seven wins and four losses.

The Batang Pier joined Alaska, the San Miguel Beermen and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters as the top four seeds who will be twice-to-beat over their lower-ranked foes in the quarterfinals.

It was a no-bearing game for the Aces, who came into the game already assured of the top seeding.

Alaska and San Miguel both finished the eliminations with 8-3 (win-loss) slates but the former took the number one seeding via the winner-over-the-other rule.

Alaska played an All-Filipino lineup in the entire second half as coach Alex Compton decided to rest prolific import Romeo Travis.

GlobalPort pounced on the opportunity although it needed an extra five-minute session to escape.

Jarrid Famous led the Batang Pier with 34 points and 26 but it was Terrence Romeo who took over in  overtime where he poured 10 of his 14 points.
