The grand finals of the 9th Huniño: Huni Halad Alang Kang Señor Sto. Niño will be held at the New Cebu Coliseum in downtown Cebu City at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

About 12 entries made it to the grand finals–all of which focused on the theme “Sto. Niño: Hope of the People.”

Four special guests will also render hymns in the event which also falls on the feast of St. Augustine.

World-class Cebuana divas Anna Fegi, Raki Vega, and Maria Donna are expected to deliver a medley of songs together with the singing Augustinian priest and composer Fr. Jonas Mejares.

Also scheduled to perform is legendary Cebuano songwriter and singer Max Surban.

“I must say this is a once in a lifetime event. A must-see so to speak. You have heard and seen them perform individually. But imagine seeing and listening to these performers in one stage,” Fr. Mejares said.

Performing with the country’s best singers, he said, is a “dream come true.”

“I never thought this will happen. But the Sto. Niño really put everything in order,” said Mejares who has performed in a number of concerts and performances for several years as a priest.

“Music is God’s gift to us. And so we will perform for His glory; for the glory of the Sto. Niño,” he said.

Unlike the previous Huniño’s which were held at the open-air pilgrim center of the Basilica del Sto. Niño, Mejares said they decided to transfer the event to the Cebu Coliseum.

“In the past years, there were instances that it really rained so hard during the event. So in order to address this, we agreed to hold the event in a place where the participants and audience won’t get drenched in case of rain,” he explained.

All 12 finalists will get P10,000 each. The grand prize winner will bring home P50,000, the first runner-up will receive P30,000, and the second runner-up will get P20,000.

All 15 entries will be included in the CD album.

The songs of the 12 finalists are Sto. Niño, Tabangi og Kaloy-i Kami; Sto. Niño, Hope of the People; Maghari Ka; I shall have life again; Sto. Niño, Maghari Ka; Awit sa Kalipay; Pasayloa; Sto. Niño, Batang Gamhanan; Hope in You, Sto. Niño; Batang Gigasa; Sto. Niño, Paglaum Ko; and Ipamulong Mo Lang.
