Gaisano Capital stains Petron Goldberry’s record in SHAABAA
GAISANO Capital once again proved to be an unsolvable puzzle for Petron Goldberry as it handed the defending champion their first loss of the tournament, 57-51, in Division A of the 20th Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Cup on Sunday at the Ateneo de Cebu campus in Canduman, Mandaue City.
Much like last year when Gaisano Capital shocked Goldberry in the very first game of the season, the former pulled out all the stops when it mattered the most as it outscored the latter, 20-15, in the final frame to get its fifth win in eight games and solidify its hold on third place.
Former Cesafi Rookie of the Year Arc Gabrielle Araw-Araw was the man of the hour for the victors as he scored 21 points. Alfonso Doyon also aided Gaisano Capital’s cause with 12.
Ed Macasling led Petron Goldberry, which fell to 8-1, with 16 while Justin Huang added 15.
In other games in the same division, the RDAK Stallions kept within striking distance of the leader with an 80-57 rout of the Chick@Phil Basic.
Lucky Ecarma paced the Stallions, who improved to 7-2, with 20 while Adrian Gaviola added 14.
Fletcher Galvez and Jason Ong combined for 24. Chick@Phil Basic fell to a league-worst 1-8 mark.
Bayfront Hotel also authored a 59-43 win over Filmon Prince Medallion to keep abreast of the race for a top four finish at the end of the elimination round.
Elmer Cabahug notched 23 points to lead the way while Antonio Datan added 10.
