Cebu City: 24 new dengue cases

At least 24 new dengue cases were recorded by the Cebu City Health Department this October, raising the number of cases since January in Cebu City to 892.
Dr. Daisy Villa, CHD officer-in-charge, said the new cases were recorded from Oct. 1 to 5.
There were seven deaths from January to September but none in October.
If a family member has high fever, promptly consult a doctor just to rule out dengue with a blood test, said Villa.
Most of the children who died were cases of late diagnosis even though blood tests for dengue and hospital care are free in the Cebu City Medical Center.
The new patients came from barangays Mabolo, Sta Cruz, Zapatera, Sambag II, Guadalupe, Cogon Pardo, Banilad, Basak San Nicolas, Kamputhaw, Apas, Labangon and Talamban.
One survivor, infant Miko Valerio, was diagnosed with dengue four days after the onset of fever.
He was one of the survivors of the weekend fire in sitio Kadahuan, barangay Talamban.
His mother Annie Enario, said the 1 year and 9 month-old baby started having fever last Sept. 28, but they only consulted a private doctor last Wednesday.
“We were afraid to consult a doctor because we don’t have money. We didn’t know that there’s a free consultation available,” she said in Cebuano.
Miko was admitted last Friday at CCMC.
Two of his cousins were also at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital for dengue.
Vanessa Valerio, 16, was discharged yesterday while her brother Jeremy Valerio, 6, remains confined at the hospital.
Talamban barangay captain Dario Arcilla said that sitio Kadahuan has the most dengue cases in his barangay, with six patients already recorded.
