8 Cebuano keglers in top 30 of NBT qualifiers

EIGHT Cebuano bowlers logged in impressive numbers to make it to the top 36 in the Masters division of the ongoing qualifying tournament for the National Bowling Tour (NBT) Grand Finals on Nov. 30.

The NBT Grand Finals will be hosted by the Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba) at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center.

The eight Cebuano pacesetters are from the Bowlingplex Tenpin Association (BTA) including Wilbert Yu who is in ninth place, Bel Suelto, Aui Padawan, Dante Calipay, Razel Silva Nilsen, Clarence Tiu, Luke Bolongan and Cetba’s Vivian Padawan.

Luther Tapaya and Cetba’s GJ Buyco are in 30th and 37th spots, respectively.

Lala Tamayo of the Bowling Association of Las Pinas’ (BALP) is the top qualifier followed by MCTBA’s Francis de Leon, former Philippine team member Jeff Carabeo, ITBA’s Baby Diosana and Jun Nierva, BALP’s Nida Lagrosa, Glenn Geluz and Linda Piedad.

In order to qualify for the Nov. 30 Grand Finals, a bowler must complete at least six qualifying tournaments. So far all of the mentioned Cebuanos have competed in six or more qualifying events held here and outside Cebu over the past months.

Their rankings in the top 36 for the Masters event are based on their accumulated points that corresponds with their rankings in each qualifying leg.

Leg champions get 30 points while the second to eighth placers also earn points.

There are three remaining qualifying tournaments left for those who want to make it to top 36 in the Masters event with 34 hopefuls statistically still in the running.
