A gunman hit his target once but missed twice, killing a woman sitting behind the target instead.
The gunman’s target Romeo Flores, 49, survived the early morning attack in barangay Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday although he was wounded in the left leg.
Flores, a multicab driver, managed to parry the gun aimed at his head thrice.
Unfortunately, Anna Glenn Villar, 29, died after the gunman missed the first time. Villar, who was sitting behind the driver, was hit in the left side of her body.
The gunman’s second shot hit Flores in the leg. A third shot also missed Flores, but hit Cherwin Salazar, 32, another multicab passenger.
Salazar was wounded in the right arm. He was sitting beside Flores when the attack happened.
Villar and Salazar were on their way to work at the Mactan Economic Zone. Villar, of barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City, worked for Yuenthai Phils. Inc. while Salazar, of barangay Catarman, Cordova town, works for Mactan Apparel.
PO2 Joseph Rouel Cutanda, Lapu-Lapu City police investigator, said Flores stopped at the corner of Lopez Jaena and Martir streets in barangay Poblacion where one passenger got off at 5:30 a.m. yesterday.
Cutanda said a man, who was wearing a full-face helmet, suddenly got off from a motorcycle behind the multicab, approached the driver and fired.
Flores saw the gun aimed at his head and dodged the first bullet. The gunman fired two more times and lost his nerve to finish the driver off when he saw several people witnessing the commotion.
The gunman hurriedly went back to his waiting cohort in a motorcycle and fled.
Cutanda said Flores, who is a president of a driver’s association in Mepz 1, was apparently the target of the attack.
He said they were still investigating the incident.
