Cebuana is NCAA MVP

CATMON’S pride and joy, Grethcel Soltones, was recognized with her second straight Most Valuable Player award as she ruled the statistical race in the 91st NCAA women’s volleyball competition.

The budding Cebuana superstar led the San Sebastian Lady Stags to a sweep of the elimination round and straight into the finals. In doing so, she amassed 185 points coming from 166 attacks, 16 service aces and three blocks to finish ahead of St. Benilde’s Jeanette Panaga and Janine Navarro. She placed second in spikes and eighth in service winners.

However, the highlight of Soltones’ afternoon was reuniting with her mother, Marilyn Mollena, who she hasn’t seen in 15 years.

Soltones grew up in Catmon with her father, Marvin, who has long been separated from his wife.

The two shared a tearful embrace just moments after the Queen Lady Stag received the MVP award.
