Cebu Business Month to tackle slow Internet
THIS year’s Cebu Business Month will tackle the slow and expensive connectivity in the country as a major hindrance to the thrust of developing a “digital Cebu.”
Christian Paro-an, owner of RC Goldline and chairman of CBM 2016, said they have invited telecommunication companies to several forums in June.
“I think there are a lot of telco players already but the problem is some of them are not expanding their horizons,” Paro-an said in a press briefing about the CBM yesterday.
Randy Esguerra, executive director for VisMin for Haier, one of CBM’s sponsors, said CCCI’s move to push digitalization of businesses is a very timely one.
“Slow bandwidth affects the performance of some products. Many are already affected by the bad connection so what we’re trying to say is, it is good that the chamber is now addressing the need for connectivity. It’s a digital world. There’s always a new platform to develop new products,” he said.
This year’s CBM, with the theme “Digital Cebu,” will discuss new and innovative ideas on how to incorporate the digital world into businesses, and how to do business in the online and digital market.
Building and keeping startups sustainable, as well as funding and investment opportunities for startups will also be among the topics.
“There are new ideas being put out — things that Cebuanos can utilize. We will also be emphasizing on the power of transformative power of digital technology,” said Michelle Varron, publicity and promotions chairperson.
Michael Basubas, CBM 2016 Entrepreneurship chairman, said the month-long activity will guide MSMEs towards the digital highway.
Among the activities and events lines up for CBM 2016 are the Cebu Digital Transformation Summit on June 1-2, Job Fair and Tourism Forum on June 15-16, and Entrepreneurship Technology and Innovation Expo on June 22-24.
From June 23 to 24, there will also be a Social Entrepreneurship Conference, and an IT/BPM Job Fair is also slated from June 24-26.
Other activities include the Visayan Pop Song Writing Competition (Vispop) on June 18, CBM’s 4th Run for the Rivers on June 26, and the 4th Cebu International Film Festival. /Correspondent Vanessa Claire Lucero
