Nacua inspired after surprise by dad

By: Jonas N. Panerio March 14,2016 - 09:26 PM

FILIPINO-AUSTRALIAN guard Jeremy Nacua of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu  seems to be a calm and collected young man, never too exuberant when victorious or too deflated when defeated.

What awaited him right before Monday’s game against the Southern City Colleges during the SM NBTC National High School Championship challenged his restrained nature.

After not seeing his father for the longest time, the younger Nacua was surprised by his father, Joselito, right before the match. And to say Jeremy was inspired would be an understatement as he fired in an incredible six three-pointers in the fourth period alone to finish with a team-high 18 points in a 99-38 rout.

“I really was surprised. I was speechless. I couldn’t say anything,” he told this writer of his meeting with his father, immediately after the game.

Jeremy’s family is based in Sydney, Australia and he barely gets to see them these days especially after transferring to Cebu for his high school studies. “He hasn’t seen me play for the longest time. The last time he was able to do so was during the Milo Olympics in Laguna.”

Joselito, on the other hand, described the decision to surprise his son as an impulsive decision.

“I arrived yesterday and I just missed their first game. He was speechless when he saw me. He did not expect me to be at the game at all,” said the elder Nacua. “It was just a quick decision.”
