Recognized as the world’s largest voluntary action for the environment, SM Supermalls will participate in the Earth Hour tonight at 8:30.
In Cebu, SM Seaside City will take the lead together with the Cebu City government. The ceremonial switch-off will happen at the Cube in SM Seaside.
The Philippines has been an active participant of Earth Hour since 2008. It has earned the status of “Earth Hero Country,” having consistently registered the most number of towns taking part in the event. For 60 minutes, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., lights will go out in support of sustainable mall operations and energy consumption.
Earth Hour in SM Seaside City Cebu will be highlighted with the participation of 4,000 bikers that will roam around the streets of Cebu City.
Pandoo Foundation, a Singapore based non-profit organization with a mission to assist a new generation of young people to put their values and evolving worldview into action, will launch their choir group singing inspirational songs.
In SM City Consolacion, Sining Dilaab, will perform songs and dances at the Event Centre. Shoppers may also have their photos taken at the giant Earth Hour symbol at the Event Centre.
The event aims to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.
