Suspect in councilman’s murder arrested

MANDAUE City police arrested early on Wednesday morning a man accused of killing a barangay councilman from Minglanilla town and his cousin in 2008.

Jun Macaantal was spotted by police after he left a casino at the City Times Square in Barangay Tipolo in Mandaue City at 4 a.m. Wednesday

Police officers of the Opao precinct and the SWAT team of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) served the arrest warrant issued for a homicide case against Macaantal.

Macaantal, a 46-year-old resident of barangay Opao was accused of killing Gilbert Cañares, a former councilman of Barangay Tunghaan in Minglanilla town and his cousin Antonio Cañares. Macaantal is now detained at the Opao precinct.
