OVER a hundred drivers gathered outside of the regional Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-7) office in Cebu City on Monday morning to protest against the reduction of their flag down rates.

The protest action coincided with the first day of the implementation of the recalibration of taxi meters to bring the flag down rate from P40 to P30.

Greg Perez, head of the militant transport group Piston-Cebu, said their protest is done simultaneously with protest actions held in the Metro Manila area.

About 50 taxi drivers arrived at the LTFRB-7 office at 10 a.m.  Drivers and their units occupied parts of J de Vera street slowing down traffic flow in the area.

They were joined by 50 Piston-Cebu members who are protesting the planned phase out of old passenger jeepney units.
