Swimmers finish with a bang

Region 7 hauled in six golds and seven silver medals in the last day of swimming competitions in the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) Nationals in Koronadal City, South Cotabato yesterday.

With the results, the swimming team has an unofficial tally of 39 golds, 22 silvers and four bronze medals.

University of San Carlos’ Ruliben Deligero added another gold medal by topping the 50m breaststroke event. The men’s group of Bryan Inamarga, John Michaelson Beltran, Keith Ocampo and University of Cebu’s Michael Ichiro Kong added another gold by ruling the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.

Chipping in more golds were USC’s Keith Ashley Ocampo (men’s 400m freestyle) and Razel Cabajar (women’s 50m butterfly).

Completing the gold winners was the men’s quartet of Cynthjune Goden, Deligero, Lorenzo Abello and Kong (4x100m medley relay) and the women’s team of Miles Chi, Rachelle Yu, Razel Cabajar and UC’s Romylin Ignacio (4x100m medley relay).

Meanwhile, Kong and Cabajar were crowned Most Outstanding swimmers in the seniors division. Head coach Augusto Bonilla was also named Outstanding Coach.

Kong and Cabajar each won five golds and two silver medals for the team in the entire competition.

Meanwhile, the Cebuanos continue to rule the track, collecting six gold medals, four silvers, and one bronze last Tuesday.

Benjamin Reynes and Lynette Ursua led the way for the Cebuanos by winning the gold medal in the men’s and women’s 100m race, respectively.

Jason Naces took the silver behind Reynes while USC’s Josie Revalde settled for bronze behind Ursua.
