JENNIFER Zabala of Cebu managed to place second in the grueling 80-kilometer Valencia V80 Road Race last weekend in Valencia, Negros Oriental.

The 38-year-old Zabala, a civil engineer by profession and an active member of the Cebu Ultrarunners Club (CUC), finished the race in 16 hours, 13 minutes and 43 seconds, good enough for second place behind City’s Maripol Tecson, who finished the run in 14:17.49.

According to CUC president Tony Galon, who was with Zabala in Valencia, Zabala is a regular ultra-marathoner and has already finished several ultramarathon races here and outside Cebu.

Galon said the Valencia race was a tough one for Zabala since aside from the 80km distance, the route was also located in the mountainous part of Valencia, which was 1,127 meters above sea level.

Zabala is a finisher at the prestigious All Women’s Ultramarathon (AWUM) and the Cebu City 360 72k ultramarathon. She also joined the Speed 50 Ultra Race.
