CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III promised to build another jail facility if reelected to a second three-year term in next year’s elections.

Davide and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale visited the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) Thursday morning where they witnessed a production number from the internationally renowned dancing inmates.

In a speech, Davide vowed to decongest the existing jail facility within the two-hectare province-run jail in barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

Davide said he will consult with the Provincial Engineering Office for possible designs.

Jail Warden Romeo Manansala said the CPDRC was built to accommodate 1,600 but the number of inmats went up to 2,900 at present.

Since March this year, 500 inmates were made to sleep in the jail’s mess hall at night.
