Man goes on hacking rampage; injures four people

Four persons were injured after a man suddenly went on a hacking rampage and attacked them without any apparent reason in Barangay Tupaz, Pinamungajan town in western Cebu last Wednesday.

Pacifico Mapalo, 50, and Sergio Cuizon, a certain Ronnie and Cibic were rushed to the hospital after they were hacked in the head and body by Martiniano Panton, 23, and a resident of the barangay.

PO2 Abelardo Biton of the Pinamungajan police station said Mapalo and Cuizon sustained severe hack wounds in the head and body and they are now in critical condition at the hospital.

Biton said investigation showed that the victims were talking along the road when Panton suddenly arrived with a scythe and attacked them.

Cerelo Batitay, a resident, managed to disarm and subdue Panton and stop the hacking rampage.

He was later turned over by barangay tanods to the police station, where he was detained.

Biton said the mother of the suspect told police that her son was a drug user.
