CEBUANA racquet-wielders Zethley Mae Alferez and Elizabeth Abarquez stamped their class after they ruled their respective divisions in the Cebuana Lhuillier Age-Group Tennis Championships last Friday night at Mambajao, Camiguin.
The 14-year-old Abarquez of Carcar City, Cebu pulled off a hard-earned victory over Carlyn Bless Guarde of Sultan Kudarat 7-5, 1-6, 10-5 in the 16-under girls finals, while the 16-year-old Alferez edged out fellow Cebuana Shyne Villareal 6-2, 7-5 to bag the 18-under girls crown.
While Alferez and Abarquez went home victorious, another Cebuano bet Marc Nicole Suson faltered as he suffered his fourth straight loss in a championship match after bowing to Zamboanga del Norte’s Jose Maria Pague in the 18-under boys 5-7, 1-6.
Suson will try to end the slump when he competes in Iligan City leg, which starts today.
