POLICE in Cebu City rounded up 31 persons with pending warrants of arrest as they implemented another “Warrant Service Day,” the third time this was done since this program was started last March.
Supt. Artemio Ricabo, deputy city director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said in a press briefing yesterday that the third round of the operation is in line with the “lambat-sibat operation,” an anti-criminality campaign of the Philippine National Police aimed at intensifying the fight against criminal elements.
Ricabo said that most of the warrants of arrest that were served were for cases of physical injuries, gambling, and violence against women and children.
One of those arrested was Joan Yugot, who was served a pending warrant of arrest for theft.
Yugot told Cebu Daily News in an interview that her case involved stolen plates from a downtown mall.
Another woman, Irene Raqosta, who was arrested yesterday, said her case was for illegal gambling.
Raqosta told CDN in an interview that she was suspected to be a “horse racing bookie.”
Ricabo said that since the implementation of the Warrant Service Day, they have been able to arrest 52 individuals in March, 41 individuals in April and 31 this month.
