RAMIREZ
After falling short in recent local foot races, Dumaguete City’s veteran runner Mereeis Ramirez redeemed herself yesterday and ruled the 16-kilometer race of the 3rd Alphans Run: Run for a Scholar.
Ramirez emerged victorious in the women’s race as she reached the finish line at the Sumilon Road of the Cebu Business Park with a time of one hour, 12 minutes and 25 seconds. The younger Lovely Fe Andrin settled for second place with registered time of 1:14.00 while Lizane Abella rounded off the top three, finishing in 1:18.45.
Prior to this win, the 37-year-old Ramirez hasn’t been that successful as she settled for second-place finishes in the Flame It! Burger Run (21k) last May and in the Run For Your Family (10k) on June 4. She also wound up third in the 16k run of the Aux Run on June 5.
In the men’s 16k distance, Kenyan runners continued to dominate as Eric Chipsiror clocked 52 minutes and 31 seconds to finish first and compatriot Hapram Kilimo placed second with a time of 52:58. Local Jay-r Baclaan settled for third place, clocking 1:10:49.
Another Kenyan, Joseph Moruri, made it to the top of the podium as he ruled the men’s 8k race. Moruri clocked 25:32 to beat local runner Rafel Piscos (27:04) and Davao City’s Elmer Bartolo (27:13) for the top spot.
Cherry Andrin emerged as the fastest in the 8k women’s side after crossing the finish line at the 34:33 mark. Melody Perez placed second (35:49) while Cressabel Cadion finished third (36:15).
The running event was organized by the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority Cebu Chapter headed by national president Antonio Tompar. It aimed to raise funds for their scholarship program.
Around a thousand runners answered the starting gun of the race handled by race director Joel Baring.
