San Remigio’s Mercito Gesta to train in WildCard Boxing Gym

By: Glendale G. Rosal June 29,2016 - 10:12 PM

SAN REMIGIO’S pride, Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta will soon be part of the famed WildCard Boxing Gym of multi-awarded boxing trainer Freddie Roach.

This after Gesta (29-1-2, 16KOs) and his father and trainer Anecito Gesta recently visited WildCard Boxing Gym to formally meet and introduce himself to Roach.

With this development, the 28-year-old Gesta, who grew up in San Remigio town, north Cebu, is expected to be seen regularly at the WildCard Boxing Gym in downtown Los Angeles to train for future bouts. Gesta is hopeful that he will become one of the top Filipino boxers again as he trains under the supervision of Roach, who is known for his work with eight-division world champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

Gesta has been based in San Diego, California for a while already since he brought his talent to the US after winning the WBO NABO Youth lightweight title in 2010.

Gesta had a two-year layoff after losing his first world title bout against Miguel Vasquez of Mexico for the IBF world lightweight title in Las Vegas on 2012. He returned to the ring in 2014 and won two consecutive bouts against Edgar Riovalle and Luis Arceo. He suffered a draw last year against Carlos Molina (17-2-2,7KOs) in a non-title showdown.

His most recent win was also a non-title fight against Mexican Miguel Angel Mendoza last year at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California.
