Five policemen assigned in Danao City in northern Cebu were arrested hours after newly installed Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa called for corrupt police officials to surrender within 48 hours.

In a text message sent to CEBU DAILY NEWS, former fifth district representative Ace Durano confirmed the arrests of the five policemen from his city, saying it was in relation to the recent surrender of Alvaro “Barok”Alvaro, the number one drug personality in Cebu who is now detained at the Cebu provincial jail days after he surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Bohol.

“In connection with Barok’s surrender, five policemen assigned in Danao were arrested. No other arrests were made,” he said.

Durano, however, did not provide additional details as to who made the arrest as well as the identities of the arrested policemen.

Alvaro has earlier provided information to the NBI on personalities involved in his drug trade operation, as well as his alleged protectors or patrons in government, but NBI officials in Cebu declined to give details.

PO2 Ronald Gomez, desk officer at the Danao City police, however insisted there was no such arrest.

Gomez, reached by phone, said there was no record of any arrests involving his colleagues in the city police.
