A pregnant woman remains in serious condition after she was stabbed by a man believed to be mentally ill on Monday night in Badian town, southwest of Cebu.

Christine Emperado Delgado, 23, a native of Toledo City, sustained stab wounds on her chest and leg and was brought to the hospital for treatment.

SPO2 Jeremias Elardo of the Badian Police Station said that Delgado needed to undergo surgery for her chest wound.

Delgado, Elardo said, was inside her live-in-partner’s residence in Barangay Calang-cang when the suspect Pael Carson suddenly approached her and stabbed her with the use of a knife about 6 p.m. on Monday.

Carson, 50, was earlier seen cleaning a vacant lot located across the house that Delgado occupied.

Elardo said that Carson was arrested during a hot pursuit operation and is now detained while awaiting the filing of charges against him.
