CLOSE to 500 residents of Sitio Superior in Barangay Looc, Mandaue City again sought the help of the city government in solving the flooding in the area where the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is located.

Dr. Danilo Dionson, resident and owner of a drug testing center, said the area would get submerged ankle to knee deep every time it would rain.

“There is drainage in the area but the outfall of the water is small since they had failed to negotiate with the private owners so that they could expropriate the area for the outfall leading to the sea,” Dionson said in Cebuano.

Dionson said the flooding started when private lot owners started fencing their properties in the late 90s, blocking the waterways.

Mandaue City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing, in an interview with Cebu Daily News, said he was aware of the flooding in the area, and the city engineering office had been studying the situation to address the problem including the possible expropriation of private lots.

“Problema gyud kaayo ang outfall kay the area were owned by private establishments (The area is a difficult problem to solve because these lots are owned by private establishments),” Quisumbing said.

Dionson also said that it was not only the residents there who were affected by the flooding but also those people who would transact business at the LTO.
