Officials from the police and military met with the regional Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to discuss plans by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to convert some identified army camps into rehabilitation areas for drug users.

“It was more of an information briefing of the drug situation in the Visayas covering four regions,” Central Command (Centcom) spokesman Lt. Col. Luzmindo Mamauag Jr. told Cebu Daily News

During the half-day closed-door meeting held at the headquarters of Central Command in Barangay Apas, Cebu City, Mamauag said they welcome the President’s pronouncement to use their military camps for rehabilitation facilities.

Initially, Mamauag said they have identified three camps including Camp Macario Peralta in Jamindan, Capiz; Camp Vicente Lukban in Catbalogan City, Samar; and the Camp Rajah Sikatuna in Carmen, Bohol.

As for the military camp in Cebu City where Centcom is located, Mamauag said they are still waiting for additional guidelines from their higher headquarters on this.
