Lilia Cuntapay
VETERAN actress Lilia Cuntapay, the face of Philippine horror films, passed away yesterday morning. She was 81.
Known for her long white hair, her toothless smile and distinct personality, Lilia often portrayed the roles of a white lady and other enchanted beings.
An ABS-CBN News Online report said Lilia breathed her last in a relative’s house at Barangay Tartarabang, Pinili, Ilocos Norte.
Her granddaughter Elma Cuntapay-Daet confirmed the news.
Earlier this month, the actress sought financial help as she was having problems with her health, specifically her spinal cord.
Lilia made her debut in the horror film series “Shake Rattle and Roll,” and starred in many other Philippine horror movies, earning her the title “Queen of Philippine Horror Movies.”
After years of scaring people in movies and on TV, she found acclaim for her first leading role in an independent film “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay.”
She won her first and last award as Best Actress in the 2011
CinemaOne Originals Digital Film Festival.
