Motorists, commuters told: Avoid UN Avenue

Metro Cebu motorists are advised against passing through UN Avenue as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) starts work on the concreting of a 300-meter stretch of road in the area today.

Glenn Antigua, chief of operations of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (TEAM), said the concreting will cover the asphalted road portion from corner DM Cortes and UN Avenue towards the bridge and its opposite lanes.

Antigua said they were informed by DPWH that they will start work on the month-long concreting this week.

The contractor PB Obial Construction will start work on the inner lane of Lapu-Lapu City to Mandaue City followed by the inner lane of Mandaue City to Lapu-Lapu.

Each lane takes about one week curing period before it can be used by motorists. Antigua said the motorists should plan their trips to avoid the peak hours.

The P13.9 million road concreting is expected to be completed by the third week of November.

Antigua appealed to the riding public for patience and to make adjustments on their schedules.

Antigua said they coordinated with Lapu-Lapu City’s Traffic Management System (CTMS) through Mario Napoli to monitor traffic flow.

“It’s a little better now that we have implemented the No Stopping rule at UN Avenue and many motorists are aware of it,” he said.

Antigua said it’s better to complete the project now rather than wait later during the onset of the Christmas season followed by the Sinulog and the Asean summit next year.
