Increased police visibility and maritime patrols are being planned for the South Road Properties (SRP) to improve peace and order and security in the area.
Law enforcement agencies likewise agreed on the need to put up a police sub-station at the Mambaling access road where robbery snatching and hold-ups often take place.
Roberto “Bu” Varquez, SRP Management Office head, said the construction boom and the influx of people in the SRP are attracting unlawful elements into the area.
Varquez met with Police Regional Office 7 Director Danilo Constantino, deputy director Senior Supt. Condrad Capa, Regional Intelligence Division head Paul Labra and AFP Central Command officials at the SRP Management Office at the Sugbu building on Tuesday morning to discuss security concerns.
“We have formed a working group because we want to come up with preventive programs that we will implement at the SRP. Tungod kay ni daghan na ang construction activities sa SRP unya ni daghan na sad ang taw, dili malikayan nga mo saka sad ang petty crimes,” said Varquez.
A lot of people come to the SRP to dine at the newly-opened restaurant. Others bike along its coastal roads after the City Council passed a resolution authorizing bikers and joggers to use the seaside road.
The opening of the SM Seaside City mall next year is also expected to bring in more people into the area, he said.
Varquez said that about a week ago, a security personnel of an ongoing construction project inside the SRP was fatally stabbed at the Mambaling access road. Some people on board pumpboats are also often seen at the portion of the SRP’s pond A at night.
Varquez said since they only have security guards to secure the SRP at seven designated stations on three shifts per day, they need the assistance of law enforcement agencies to make sure that the area remains safe for business and leisure activities.
