Team to unmask policemen in ‘drug payola’

By: Chito O. Aragon June 14,2014 - 08:12 AM

A fact-finding team will be formed to check into reports that some policemen are coddling illegal drug pushers in barangay Talamban, Cebu City.

Senior Supt. Noli Romana, director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the team will be composed of select police officers and a member of the Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (PCAC).

Romana said he is hoping that the team will identify the alleged operatives of the Talamban police who accept money from drug pushers.

“As much as possible, they should get testimonies from the residents for the allegation to stand,” said Romana.

Romana assured that the identities of persons who could give credible information will be treated with confidentiality.

The police official even offered to provide security to informants if needed.

Senior Insp. Bienvenido Miral, chief of the Talamban Police Station, said they are willing to cooperate with the fact-finding team as they also want to clear their names.

Miral said the erring policemen should be identified so that those who are doing their job well will not be demoralized.

Miral said he was hesitant in accepting the post as chief of the Talamban police because of reports that there were some policemen involved in illegal drug activities.

“I had no choice but to follow orders,” said Miral.

Miral said he had already spoken to some barangay officials but they too failed to identify the erring policemen.

Miral said there are at least four policemen who are accepting money from drug pushers but there is not yet enough evidence that could pin them down.
