Sheila Maluya, an 11-year-old girl diagnosed with Myxofibrosarcoma
An 11-year-old girl from Barangay Looc, Mandaue City is earnestly seeking for financial help as she undergoes chemotherapy treatment.
Sheila Maluya was diagnosed with Myxofibrosarcoma, low grade last June 3, 2019. In 2017, she began to notice a small mass on her left lateral neck. Two years passed by and the mass had increased in size. On May 23, 2019, surgery was done to remove the mass. An excisional biopsy was also performed and it revealed a malignant fibroblastic neoplasm which confirms her diagnosis. Myxofibrosarcoma is a type of cancer that forms in connective tissues specifically the connective tissues that surround the muscles. It typically appears as a slow-growing, painless lump that lies just below the skin or deeper in the muscle tissue. It may occur in children but is most common in older adults.
Upon diagnosis, her attending physician then prescribed a treatment protocol that includes 12 cycles of chemotherapy. Radiation therapy will follow afterwards. As of now, Sheila is yet to start her treatment.
Sheila is a smart girl. She excels in her class as a grade 5 pupil at Looc Elementary School. She loves sports like badminton and taekwondo. She loves to dance too. She is the eldest of the four siblings in the family. Sheila aspires to become a nurse someday in order to care for sick children. As the sole breadwinner of the family, her father works hard to meet their daily needs. He is a sidewalk vendor who earns P300-P400 per day. Her mother is a housewife who manages and cares for their family. Her father’s income is scarcely enough for their basic necessities and the education of their children. Because of the expensive chemotherapeutic medications, frequent medical procedures, and the crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheila’s chemotherapy has been put on hold. Their financial resources are indeed very inadequate to cover all her medical expenses. Hence, her parents are wholeheartedly seeking for generous individuals to provide financial assistance that will immensely help in extending the life of their precious child.
