By: - February 26, 2021

Continuing its mission to promote Cebuano culture and heritage amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Casa Gorordo Museum is now offering a virtual tour for visitors to freely explore and learn more about the historic house from the comfort of their homes.

The virtual tour can be accessed at https://casagorordomuseum.org/virtual-tour using a smartphone or computer. Visitors will enjoy a dramatization of various house traditions and practices, along with audio and video narration of the house’s history, rooms, artifacts, and exhibits. This makes Casa Gorordo Museum the first house museum in the Visayas to offer free virtual walkthroughs!

Casa Gorordo Museum was one of the first local museums to temporarily close its doors at the onset of the pandemic last March. It has since gone digital, offering free educational activities on local culture and heritage including virtual exhibits and house traditions, monthly CGM Talks, and town features.

The house in Parian was built in 1850 and was home to four generations of the Gorordo family including Bishop Juan Gorordo, the first Filipino bishop of Cebu. The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. (RAFI) acquired the structure in 1979. It opened as a museum in 1983.

In 1991, the Casa Gorordo Museum was declared a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Institute for its historical and social significance. Last year, it was recognized as part of the Top 10% attractions worldwide in the Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards.

Casa Gorordo Museum is the centerpiece project of RAFI’s Culture & Heritage Unit (CHU). RAFI-CHU aims to develop a strong sense of cultural identity among local communities by promoting awareness of their heritage and enabling them to articulate their story.
