After a week-long battle for supremacy, the Municipality of Daanbantayan came up on top as it was crowned the overall champions in the 2015 Cebu Provincial Sports and Cultural Meet yesterday in Dalaguete town, southern Cebu.
Athletes from this town at the northern tip of Cebu bagged 57 gold medals, 40 silvers and 24 bronze medals to come out victorious.
This means that athletes from Daanbantayan will make up the core of the Cebu Province team that will compete in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet.
Leading the medal haul were athletes from the Daanbantayan elementary squad, who finished with 30 golds, 21 silvers and seven bronze medals. The secondary team added 27 gold medals, 19 silvers and 17 bronzes.
The Municipality of Liloan came in far second in the overall standings as it finished with 27 golds, 24 silvers and 30 bronze medals.
Liloan got almost half of its medals from its gymnastics team, which garnered 13 gold medals, 12 silvers and 10 bronze medals.
Also putting up a great performance was San Fernardo town, which finished third overall with 17 gold medals, 11 silvers and nine bronze medals.
Completing the top five are the Municipality of Sta Fe, which had a 15-10-5 (gold-silver-bronze) haul, and the Municipality of Bantayan, finished with 14 golds, 12 silvers and 12 bronzes.
