THE CEBU Dragons Rugby Football Club pulled off a huge upset over the experienced Albay Vulcans to capture the trophy in the Shield division of the 28th Manila 10’s International Rugby Festival yesterday at Nomads Sports Club.
The Dragons, who last won the title in 2013, are coming off a rebuilding process, adding Papua New Guinea-natives Albert K. Gabi, Napoleon Ilofa, Jonathan Oda and John Titus to their lineup just last Monday.
The chemistry was not an issue for the Dragons as they were able to dominate the INSEAD Barbarians in the quarterfinals, 38-0, before running away against the HK Pot Bellied Pigs, 21-10, in the penultimate round.
They sustained their momentum onto the final round edging out the Vulcans via penalty try to take home the championship gold.
