Sorongon, Kenyan top Family Run 10K race

Ruffa Sorongon grabbed her fifth running title of 2016 by ruling the women’s 10-kilometer division yesterday in the inaugural “Run For Your Family” of the newly formed Commission On Family and Life of the Archdiocese of Cebu at the Archbishop Palace compound in D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City.

Sorongon finished first in 45 minutes and 21 seconds and bested Dumaguete City’s Mereeis Ramirez who placed second in 48:45. Lovely Andrin for third in 48:48.

Meanwhile, the men’s 10k race was topped by Kenyan Kalimo Hapram crossed the finish line in 33:28 beating Michael Largo (37:55) and another Kenyan Douglas Mwiti (38:45).

Joseph Mururi and Cherry Andrin ruled the 5k race clocking 21:05 and 26:25, respectively. Mururi was trailed by Arnel Florentino who came second in 22:00 and Elmer Bartolo in 22:06. Mary Joy Loberanis placed second behind Andrin with a clocking of 26:35 while Junecel Saballa finished third in 26:40.

Niño Abaygan topped the men’s 3k race by clocking 15:04 while Jennifer Sabillon ruled the distaff side in 21:18. In the 1k race, Rogie Baguio and Maria Criza Tampus claimed the men’s and women’s top spots in 07:05 and 10:59, respectively while the Maribao family won the 3k family run.

The running event aims to raise funds to strengthen the Commission On Family and Life of the Archdiocese of Cebu which conducts counseling for married and unmarried couples and families on how to strengthen their ties through faith.

Close to a thousand runners answered the starting gun yesterday with veteran race director Joel Juarez of Coco Running manning the race’s technical needs.
