Mandaue infra projects to require 24/7 schedule

MANDAUE City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing said he will require contractors to conduct 24/7 work on infrastructure projects so they can meet or finish ahead of their deadlines.

“There is no need to issue an executive order. We can make it a requirement in the bidding,” the mayor said.

Last week City Planning and Development Officer Marlo Ocleasa told the City Council that most of the 27 projects funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and another 15 funded by the city remain unfinished.

Quisumbing said the delays were caused by the election ban and lack of qualified and certified heavy equipment operators.

“The delay is not entirely the fault of the contractors,” he said.

Quisumbing said a joint monitoring and coordination committee consisting of city government officials and DPWH representatives will address the concerns raised by the public on the projects especially its effect on traffic.
