Lapu race hopes to hit 2 birds with 1 stone

The upcoming “Historic Resort City Marathon-Lapu-Lapu” aims to hit two birds with one stone.

Slated on Nov. 30, 2014 in front of the Lapu-Lapu City Hall, the run aims to raise funds to support the tourist police project of the city by purchasing new motorcycles and bicycles for quick response when needed. It also hopes to promote the city’s branding name and its logo.

Lapu-Lapu City for the past three years, has become the center of triathlon in the country after hosting the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines participated by thousands of triathletes from dozens of countries.

The running event is made possible by the Lapu-Lapu City Runners Club (LLCRC) in partnership with the Lapu-Lapu City government along with the Lapu-Lapu City Association of Hotels and Resort Security Officers (LCAHRSO).

With the theme “Dagan Para Kahimsog, Kahapsay ug Kalinaw,” the race will feature a full 42-kilometer marathon along with a 21k half marathon, 10k, 5k and 3k distances.

The unique race will kick off at midnight and is expected to finish at 8 a.m. the following day.

Organizers are planning to make the race a regular sporting activity in line with the city’s fiesta celebration this November.

Registration fees are P1,200 (42k), P900 (21k), P550 (10k), P450 (5k) and P350 (3k). Registration fee includes singlet, finisher shirt, finisher’s medal, loot bag and breakfast for 42k racers; singlet, finisher’s shirt, finisher’s medal and breakfast for 21k runners; and singlet, finisher’s medal and refreshment for 10k, 5k and 3k entries.

Gun start for each category: 42k-12 a.m., 21k-2 a.m., 10k-5 a.m., 5k-5:15 a.m. and 3k-5:30 a.m.

Registration period is from Oct. 7 to Nov. 15. A group registration of 10 runners will have one runner free while LLRC members enjoy a 10 percent registration discount. This promo is only up to Oct. 31.

Registration sites are located at the Lapu-Lapu City Hall, Planet Sports, Pueblo Verde Tamiya Basak, Runnr-Ayala, Kai Sticker in Mandaue and Beauche International Mactan Galleria. Online registration is also available through aktib.store.ph.
