A man was recently released from jail was shot dead in barangay Talot, Barili town, southwest Cebu.

Police said revenge could be the motive in the killing of Edden Umbay, 27.

Umbay was jailed at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center for rape and frustrated charges. He was eventually released after the court acquitted him.

Last Thursday afternoon, the man was heading to a cockpit when he was repeatedly shot by a still-unidentified assailant, said PO3 Ramil Patalinghug.

Recovered from the man was a .38 revolver with four bullets.

A 24-year-old construction worker was also killed in another shooting incident that happened in the same barangay yesterday noon.

The fatality was identified as Jundel Perida, who suffered two gunshot wounds in the head.

Police said the man was waylaid shortly after he took his lunch break at a construction site.

Recovered in the crime scene were two empty shells of a 9mm caliber pistol.

The case is still under investigation.
