El Niño to worsen next month, Pagasa warns

August 19,2015 - 12:01 AM

Despite the rains, the public should prepare for warmer months ahead due to the El Niño phenomenon, the Mactan office of the state weather bureau Pagasa said yesterday.

“The community is quite confident now because of the rains, but there is El Niño,” Pagasa-Mactan chief Oscar Tabada said.

Tabada said while the southwest monsoon will bring rains from Thursday to Sunday, the dry spell will be at its most severe starting next month until December this year.

He said below normal rainfall volume of less than 40 percent began in January and will last until December this year. Tabada said the El Niño will officially end in May next year./Palompon Institute of Technology Intern Jay-Ileen Engalla
