MANDAUE City is among  five cities in the Philippines to bag the Islands of Good Governance (IGG) award.

The Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) awarded Mandaue City with the IGG seal during the Public Governance Forum held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila last October 21.

Mandaue City Administrator  James Abadia said the  seal shows that the city has plans and the ability to implement its plans.

“This has been shown through its breakthrough projects, our “I Am Mandaue” shops and also our geographic information system,” he said

The seal is different from those given by the Department of Interior and Local Government as the IGG is awarded by a non-government organization, which is ISA along with the Institute of Corporate Directors and the National Competitiveness Council.

This seal serves as recognition to the public sector institutions as models of transformations at par with global standards of governance.

Aside from Mandaue City, four other cities in the Philippines also received the award.

These are Butuan City, Talisay City in Negros Occidental, Balanga City in Bataan and Dipolog City.

Abadia said  the seal is still in line with the Performance Governance System.

Aside from local government units, the seal is  also awarded to deserving national government agencies.

“There’s no cash prize. It’s pure recognition,” Abadia siad.
