Road closures in Talisay

MOTORISTS are advised that the South Road Properties (SRP) will be closed as early as 4 a.m. on Sunday for the 70.3 Cobra IronMan Asia Pacific Championship.

The entire stretch of the SRP will be used for the 90-kilometer bike race of the prestigious triathlon event.

In a press conference yesterday at the Talisay City Hall, City of Talisay-Traffic Operation Development Authority head Hiram Benatiro said the road closure will start at the entrance of SRP in Barangay Lawaan II.

Benatiro advised those who will be going out on Sunday from the southern part of Cebu to take the Natalio Bacalso Road or the Cebu South Road.

Benatiro said even those residents in the coastal barangays of San Roque, Tanke, Cansojong, Poblacion, Dumlog, Biasong and Pooc are advised to take the route in Mohon to Barangay Linao.

“I am asking them for their consideration since this is only a half-day event,” Benatiro said.

He said his team won’t hesitate to implement the law if motorists will not follow their request.

Jeaneth Villagonzalo, executive director of the Talisay City Sports Commission, said there will be 78 policemen, 136 barangay tanods, 63 traffic enforcers, 100 police interns, and 300 students from the Talisay City College who will be active on race day.

For the safety of both participants and spectators, Villagonzalo said they have requested the city veterinarian’s office to impound stray dogs during the race.
