The construction of a new public market in Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City, southern Cebu, which cost about P154 million, will start before the end of 2016.

Mayor Eduardo Gullas of Talisay said bidding of phase 1 of the project, which is estimated to cost P56 million, has been set on Aug. 15, while construction is expected to start on September 8 and will be completed in December before the first 100 days in office of Gullas.

Phase 1 will include the construction of a passenger terminal and commercial spaces.

Phase 2, which will cost P98 million, will follow 100 days after the completion of phase 1.

It will involve construction of market vendors stalls.

Gullas assured that no vendor will be displaced while the terminal and market construction project is ongoing.

He said vendors will be allowed to continue selling in their existing stalls while phase 1 is being constructed.

Tricycle drivers who occupy the existing passenger terminal will be relocated.

Vendors, Gullas said, will be transferred to the newly completed passenger terminal where they will sell during the construction of phase 2.

Gullas was confident that traffic in Barangay Tabunok once the market and terminal projects would be completed.
