Quake jolts Biliran, Cebu, Leyte and Masbate

A magnitude 5 earthquake hit Naval in the island-province of Biliran on Saturday night, which was felt in varying intensities in the provinces of Biliran, Cebu, Leyte and Masbate.

The tremor was felt at Intensity 5 in the towns of Naval and Almeria in Biliran; Intensity 4 in Tolosa, Leyte; Intensity 3 in Mandaue City in Cebu; and Intensity 2 in Cebu City and in Masbate City.

The tremor was recorded at 10:05 p.m. at a depth of 7 kilometers and 80 degrees west of Naval, Biliran, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Robinson Giorgio of the Cebu Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin.
