Reigning WBO International Featherweight champion Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo will face Mexican Ruben Garcia in the Pinoy Pride 38 – “Philippines vs. Mexico” fight card on Sept. 24 at the StubHub Center in Carson City, California, USA.

The 21-year-old Magsayo, who sports an unbeaten 14-0-0 (win-loss-draw) record with 11 knockout victories, will face the 23-year-old super featherweight Garcia in the undercard of the fight card that features a main event pitting two division world champion Donnie Nietes and former world champion Edgar Sosa of Mexico. Nietes will be debuting in the regular flyweight division.

Garcia, a native of Distrito Federal of Mexico City, holds a record of 17 wins, seven by knockout, two losses and a single draw.

Garcia is the former WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation Super bantamweight champion.

His most recent bout finished with a unanimous decision victory against Dominican Republic’s Ramon Emilio Cedano last June 18. Less than a week before that, he won a second-round knockout against another Dominican Republic boxer Alberto Valenzuela.

Before his back-to-back wins last June, Garcia suffered his second loss to the unbeaten IBF world bantamweight champion Randy Caballero last May in a non-title fight held in the USA.

Michael P. Aldeguer of ALA Promotions International said Garcia will be a tough foe for Magsayo.

“This should be a test of the consistency of Mark Magsayo after his win against Cris Avalos,” Aldeguer said, referring to Magsayo’s last win here in Cebu City.

This will serve as Magsayo’s second fight in the US. He debuted in the US last year by winning a knockout against Yardley Suarez of Mexico for the IBF Youth featherweight title.

Magsayo clinched the WBO International featherweight title against world title challenger Chris Avalos in a sixth-round TKO at the Cebu City City Sports Center last April 23.
