Green Lancers to help Baby Lancers get through tough times in Cesafi tilt
With the a beleaguered University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers seemingly digging themselves into a much deeper hole with each passing day, their elder counterparts led by Green Lancers head coach Gary Cortes have taken up the cudgels in the hopes of turning high school team around.
A day after an image of Baby Lancer JJ Rosete putting Ateneo de Cebu’s Benedict Chua in a threatening headlock went viral on social media, a video of an unidentifiable Baby Lancer giving reigning MVP Jed Colonia a liver punch surfaced, adding even more woes to the squad of team manager and young solon, Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas.
“I am just disappointed,” was Gullas’ curt reply when asked about the latest black eye to his esteemed institution.
However, help is on the way with Cortes extending assistance to the beleaguered youngsters.
“We’re going to try and help them out. They will surely listen. They’re very nice and lovable kids,” said Cortes.
The affable head coach added that while it will most definitely take work, rehabilitating the Baby Lancers is not at all impossible.
“Just like what we did sa college, almost everybody thought that we are being really strict with them. But no, we don’t even impose punishments on them. We just made them understand that in every bad situation, we don’t want it to get worse,” explained Cortes.
He also said that the Baby Lancers should keep their head up in this storm.
“They should forget and learn from the past, and start anew. Nobody made it to the top without starting at the bottom.”
