CEBUANO racing sensation Jette Calderon of Toyota Team Cebu/GM Motorsport conquered tough odds as he battled his way back from fifth place to rule the Super Sporting Class of the Vios Cup Season 3 Race 3 last Saturday at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

The 19-year-old Architecture student of the University of San Carlos finished the nine-lap final race with a time of 22 minutes, 10.493 seconds, half-a-second ahead of second placer and current points leader Andres Calma, who he overtook with just two laps remaining.

In third place was Basti Escalante, who finished in 22:14.469. Raymond Ronquillo was in fourth while another Cebuano, Daniel Miranda, finished fifth.

At the wheel of Toyota Team Cebu (TTC) Standard Insurance Vios Cup Racecar #42, Calderon had the wherewithal to climb up the grid and end up in fifth in Race 5 with a time of 22:22.826, six seconds behind first placer Carlos Loinaz of Batangas.

In the final race, the youngster slowly made his way up before eventually taking over late in the race to win and bag the P50,000 cash prize.

For now, all classes are well represented by the Cebu team with Oscar Suarez and Bobby Pangilinan in Promotional Class, Lord Seno and Sean Velasco in Sporting and Calderon in Super Sporting. All 5 drivers are already podiums finishers.

“Toyota Team Cebu’s Dodo Cuenco is so proud of this feat after Jette’s dismal season last year. This is a great achievement for Toyota Team Cebu,” said Seno, the team’s veteran racer and coach.
