Victim allegedly failed to remit drug proceeds

SENIOR Supt. Joel Doria, director of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said they are validating a report that one of the victims in the gruesome killing in Tres de Abril, Barangay Punta Princesa was an alleged runner for slain alleged drug lord Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz.

Doria hinted that Ramonito Ibona was killed for failing to remit his proceeds from the illegal drugs trade.

“Actually, we have a sensitive case right here. As much as possible, we want to limit the information for the time being,” he said.

Ibona, his younger brother Cesario, and a 16-year-old girl were gunned down by two men, one of whom was identified as a certain “Amboy” from the same neighborhood.

The girl, a family friend, allegedly helped the two other victims in grilling barbecue when the shooting happened.

Doria said he was saddened by the death of the minor who just happened to be in Ibona’s house when the shooting happened.

“It’s very unfortunate. My condolences to the family. But how I wish parents would monitor their children very well. Had this happened in this case, that girl would have been alive now,” he said.

Ibona, a barbecue vendor, was shot in his upper torso, neck, and arms, while Cesario and the girl were shot in their shoulder blades.

Police recovered eight small sachets of shabu and several drug paraphernalia inside Ibona’s house.

“For now, we won’t say something about the suspects because they might leave if they know the police is looking for them,” Doria said.
