Police seized 59 illegal gambling machines in three separate operations in Cebu City Friday evening.

Senior Supt. Joel Doria, director of the Cebu City Police Office, said police officers of the Mambaling Police Station confiscated 13 video karera and 46 moli-moli machines within their area of jurisdiction.

“Aside from illegal drugs, the police has been conducting operations against illegal gambling only that it’s not given much publicity,” he said in an interview.

Doria said there will be no let up in their campaign against illegal gambling.

“Tuloy-tuloy yong operations natin. (Our operations against illegal gambling shall continue),” he said.

At around 8:10 p.m., operatives of the Mambaling Police Station conducted an operation in Barangay San Nicolas and seized 3 video karera and 13 moli-moli machines.

An hour later, the police seized five video karrera and 21 moli-moli machines in Barangay Duljo-Fatima.

At around 11 p.m., the police conducted another operation in Barangay Mambaling which led to the seizure of five video karera and 12 moli-moli machines.

No one was arrested.

The illegal gambling machines were brought to the Mambaling Police Station and are set to be destroyed.

Senior Supt. Jose Macanas, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, said he has also sent a reminder to all police station chiefs in the province not to forget addressing the problem on illegal gambling.

“I just want to remind them. Baka napabayaan na nila. (Perhaps, they have not given much attention to illegal gambling),” he said.

Since he assumed his post last July, Macanas said he already instructed all policemen to go after illegal gambling aside from conducting operations against illegal drugs.

“As the first word says, illegal gambling is illegal,” he said.

Macanas said the province police has a number of accomplishments in their campaign against illegal gambling but he has yet to determine the updated figures.
