1st Mayor Ramon Durano III chess tilt slated Sept. 24
THE 1st Mayor Ramon Durano III Open Chess Tournament, organized by the Danao City Chess Club and the Danao City Sports Commission, will kick off on Sept. 24 at the Cebu Technological University (CTU) in Danao City, northern Cebu.
The tournament, which will be held in line with the Karansa Festival, will feature a seven-round Swiss system format.
“We have existing tournaments here in Danao but this one is the biggest we have organized after the sports commission extended its help to make this tournament happen,” said Gamaliel Gonzales, who is a member of the Board of Directors of the Danao Chess Club.
Tournament champion in the open division will bring home P3,500 plus a trophy while the runner-up will receive P2,500 and a medal. Third placer will get P2,000 plus a medal also. Top five in the open division will receive cash prizes as well as the top five Danao-based participants.
Special award will be given to the top performing kiddies’ players.
According to Gonzales, the one-day tournament can accommodate up to a hundred player.
He added Cebu City-based wood pushers have been invited to compete.
Registration fee is pegged at P150 for the open division while P100 for the kiddies’ players and P50 for the Danao City-based players.
