The Outstanding Army reservist unit for 2016

THE 1901st Ready Reserve Infantry Division has bested 13 other Reservist Regions nationwide, and has been declared “Outstanding Army Reservist Unit for the year 2016” by the Headquarters Army Reserve Command.

The Command Plaque of distinction was received by Brigade Commander Colonel Erik Miguel Espina, son of former Cebu Governor and Senator Rene Espina.

The formal ceremonies took place last September 12 at Camp Riego de Dios in Tanza, Cavite, home of the Army Reserve Command.

Guest of honor and speaker was Rear Admiral Ernesto Enriquez, Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retirees affairs. Successfully engaging with local stakeholders and self-generated funding, the 1901st Ready Reserve Brigade contributed over three million pesos in “cost benefit” Services to 8,163 beneficiaries in various charity and out-reach programs in Cebu alone.

The unit is composed of volunteers from various professions who openly share their talent, finances and networking: lawyers, doctors, dentists, media practitioners, priests, educators, nurses, psychiatrists, therapists, businessman, public servants, parish groups, etc.

They operate in Region 7, covering Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, and Negros Oriental.

The Oustanding Reservist Enlisted Personnel Award for the year was also given to 1901st Master Sgt. And journalist John Rey Saavedra.

The brigade also renders other traditional roles during Sinulog and Kaplag rites, environmental projects, human assistance and disaster response, and is supervised by a regular officer as liaison to Centcom and Army Reserve Command by 7th RCDG Group Commander Colonel Nestor Abando in Camp Lapu-lapu.

The kick off activity and media launch will be on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Atrium of Robinsons Galleria.

The two-day activity (Oct. 15 and 16) is from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., designed to help children learn about the basic steps on road safety.

The CSI-Junior Driving course is open to kids four to eight years of age.
