Fisherman drowns off Daanbantayan

A fisherman drowned gleaning for shellfish in Daanbantayan town, northern Cebu at Thursday dawn.

Julius Regner, information officer of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), said Jessie Estemar of Barangay Maya in Daanbantayan town was looking for shellfish on a pump boat with his son Wivelle Estemar when he was caught by a huge wave past 4:30 am.

Local fishermen rescued Wivelle while others went on to look for Jessie whose body was recovered past 7 a.m. or about three hours later.
